Just because I am; Poem

By: Saaniah Hardy

Just because I am quiet.
Doesn’t mean I am not rambunctious,
Doesn’t mean I am not friendly,
Doesn’t mean I am always silent.

Just because I am a horrible-voiced girl.
Doesn’t mean I can change it,
Doesn’t mean I don’t have anything good to say,
Doesn’t mean I’ll change myself for them.

Just because I am amiable.
Doesn’t mean I am nice,
Doesn’t mean I say everything I think,
Doesn’t mean I am kind.

Just because I am happy.
Doesn’t mean I am happy inside,
Doesn’t mean I am sweet,
Doesn’t mean I GET over hard incidents,
Doesn’t mean I can move on.

Just because I am ugly.
Doesn’t mean I have an ugly inside,
Doesn’t mean I LIKE your judgment,
Doesn’t mean I THROW away your judgment.

Just because I am strong enough to handle pain.
Doesn’t mean I deserve it,
Doesn’t mean I enjoy the hardship.

STOP judging me.
I still feel afflicted,
I am not aggressive but aggrieved,
I care if you are ambivalent towards me.

I apologize for making your lives worse but what about mine? Do you care about mine? Do you care about what YOU do to other people? Well, I wish I had amnesia to get all this hate out of my mind forever.
